Poisonous indeed but, talking manrated, all Apollo landers had that
hypergolic biprop aboard for RCS and for their landing/return engines.
Before, Gemini capsules used it for RCS because Mercury 90 % HP sieve
catalyst packs RCS had proven less reliable. The Titan Gemini carriers also
ran it.
Space shuttle OMS, likewise.

Subject: [AR] Re: Space-X escape engines
With the following statements taken from Wikipedia and backed by other
sites, I'm trying to make sense of a "MAN RATED" capsule having UDMH/NTO
motors right next to the escape hatch.
UDMH is toxic, a carcinogen <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carcinogen> and
can explode in the presence of oxidizers.
It can be absorbed through skin. During the 1980s there was concern about
the levels of UDMH in various foods being a cancer risk, especially for
apple juice <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_juice> .
UDMH released into the environment can react in air to form
dimethylnitrosamine <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimethylnitrosamine> , a
persistent carcinogen and groundwater pollutant

looks like a UDMH/NTO propellant.
