As a matter of interest, how do users of alternative letter sets such as
Cyrillic use them? Do you have to buy an alternative keyboard?

There are quite a few freeware Latin1 fonts that have cyrillic characters
embedded. You will need an appropriate keyboard driver for convenient
typing. !KeyMap is a program that lets you define your own keyboard
drivers. It comes with some cyrillic fonts and a lot of predefined drivers.
