As an expierenced radio man I prefer a line connection above a wireless
connection when there is not a direct line-of-sight situation. In this
case I have to put the dongle on the backside because I want to preserve
the front connectors for USB sticks.
I have seen (rare) instances where wireless peripherals experience
occasional erratic behaviour (sluggish response or occasional drop-out) if
there is a lot of interference. I first encountered this over a very
short distance in a retirement flat (there were many flats in one
building).
The cure was to use a short USB extension cable (type A, male to female)
to bring the receiver closer, and all the problems were resolved. In this
case, his previous wireless mouse came with such an extender, so I simply
fitted it and "hey presto!".
In my own office (where the router is only 6ft away, so you might think
there could be interference from that, or the cordless telephone also in
the same room) I have no such problems, and have used the wireless
receiver for years to work on the various machines I build.
The only thing I have added is an inch-long hard plastic USB extender
(that came with an older iteration of the same Logitech set). Why? To
give me something to grab hold of! I move keyboard/mouse between many
systems frequently when building, so having something of significant size
to grab hold of makes plugging/unplugging easier and smoother.
Best wishes,
Andrew
