It could indicate the machine isn't reading the EDID information from
the monitor, and is defaulting to a mode timings the monitor isn't
entirely happy with.
Try unplugging the video cable at both ends, and ensure it is reseated
firmly.

Try out a range of desktop resolutions, and if they are all OK, then its
probably nothing to worry about.
