Maybe, but this seems to be typical with many systems, and there is little a
mere
application can can do about problems with the Operating System.
[ Both my Mac Laptops have bugs in sleep/wake behaviour - in one the display
gets
more and more "snow" on it because some timing register in the display
hardware
hasn't been restored, and in the more recent one, sometimes the keyboard
driver/interface doesn't re-startup after sleep. ]

Simplest fix to a USB device not being noticed is to un-plug and re-plug the
instrument.
If that doesn't work, then a reboot is about the only way of making the
Operating
System get its house in order.
