Wow. How disappointing. So the potential for confusion is very high.
So, the way I assumed this would work was that the distro package
pulls on the compat library by the argyllcms package. The other way of
doing this is just to use the "proper" libcolord in argyllcms which is
always going to be present on any modern distro.
