Depending on the thickness of the paper, it will have an influence.
My suggestion would be to either paint the bed of your "slicer" matte white,
or stick something white (such a thick, good quality paper) over it.
[ For some purposes, such as measuring paper that's been printed on
both sides, a black background is used. Black is not good for
profile making though. ]
