thanks for your reply.

But the initial step is to attach (tag) your scanner images with the
scanner profile.

That is exactly what I did up to now and using the scanner software to
render the scans to AdobeRGB. But then I am bound to the rendering intent
the profile is in, which according to your documentation is always
colorimetric. The intent specified in colprof with the -Z parameter is,
according to your documentation, not really used by Argyll.

However, I would like to test the influence of the various intents. So is
there any other way than the one I outlined to render the scanned images in
Adobe RGB? That would be important, since none of the tools I use
(PhotoShopElements, SilverFast HDR, RawTherapee) do understand the linked
profiles.

that's one way of doing it, which results in best quality and most
flexibility.

But the initial step is to attach (tag) your scanner images with the scanner
profile.
You have now labelled the color space the images are in, and can proceed to
convert
them to other colorspaces using your CMM of choice, and application that are
color
aware will know how to properly interpret the pixel values of your scanner
files.
