Make sure that the needle is in the very middle of the needle plate- do this by 
putting in a new needle (don't thread it up yet>do a bottom center 
(tools>maintenance>head timing)>see if the needle is in the very center of the 
hole, if not, loosen the 2 screws that hold the needle plate in place and 
adjust  retighten the screws&gthead up>thread up & see how it goes.
