Line conditioner is the correct term for it. You spoke to a dufas at Best Buy. 
They should know what it is. If you have a local computer store (Comp USA or 
Compuserve) or something like that it would be a better source.

The line conditioner stabilizes the electrical current to reduce power 
fluctuations. When you couple that with an Uninteruptable Power Supply, you get 
extremely stable current. Good for the machines. Get one.
