Yep that works. But the light does not shine on the needle hole It is a few
mm away. My needle is not dead centre with the hole in the presser foot/ It
is about one needle width to right of the center of the hole in the presser
foot.
Could that be the reason?

Try using the hoop button (square one, third down from the top, right side)
and the arrow buttons at the same time.
