Hi Peggy, Here is the solution for collapsed emails that I got from Steve Clark Hope it helps Rob Simon Collapsed emails First, here's the simple way to remedy the situation: 1. Press Alt+V to open the view menu. 2. Press enter on the first option that appears in that menu: current view. 3. Press the up arrow key once. You should land on an option called Group Messages by Conversation. If your screen reader announces that this item is checked, press enter to uncheck it and return your in box to its normal view. Now, read on if you want a more in depth description of what you were encountering. I believe you were experiencing a common Outlook Express ailment called group messages by conversation. When this option is enabled, if you receive a number of messages which all have the same subject, they will be grouped into one item. So, if you were navigating through your in box, you would typically encounter a message where your screen reader would announce the word: collapsed. This indicates that there are several messages which all have the same subject. However, you only see the initial message with that subject, i.e. the first message which came to you. If you want to see all the messages in the collapsed conversation, press the right arrow key to expand the list of messages. Now, you can continue to navigate with the down arrow key, and you will see all the messages which are part of that conversation. It can actually be quite useful when you want to catch up on a lot of mail. But it's dangerous if you don't know it has been enabled. When you received the message about all messages being deleted, this was because by pressing delete upon a collapsed conversation, you were indicating that you wanted to delete all messages with that particular subject. The most common reason that this option was enabled without your having initiated it yourself is that the command Control+h is the Outlook Express keyboard shortcut to group messages by conversation. Often times, when people press Control+Y to access the e-mail folders, they inadvertently hit the H as well. Try going into the View menu, select the Current View menu and in that sub menu make sure Group by Conversation is unchecked. I think you are threading your messages. All the messages with the same basic subject including the re: and FW: are collapsed into one line in outlook express. If you like it this way, you can still read the hidden messages. When Jaws tells you a message is collapsed, hit the right arrow key to expand the message and now you can arrow down to the next message. What are collapsed e- e-mails and why do they show up this way. Many time the list's e-mails show as collapsed. How do I delete, or rearrange them? ----- Original Message ----- From: Steven Clark To: adaptivetec@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, February 18, 2009 4:45 PM Subject: [adaptivetec] Re: undisclosed email lists with OE Lori, I think what you want is to use the BCC field. That way, nobody else sees who else receives the emails. Normally the BCC field is turned off in outlook express. To turn it on, open a new message, go to the View menu and select the All Headers item. Outlook Express should remember that setting and leave it on for all future emails until you turn it off. To use the BCC field, tab to it when addressing a message. Just put all the addresses there and no one else will see them. Some people address the message to themselves in the to field, otherwise it looks like the message wasn't sent to anybody and some spam blockers will block it. You can use the Address book to set up groups, but if you don't know how to do that, its too complicated for me to get into right now. Once the group is set up, just use it in the BCC field. I use OE. I'm not sure if it can be done with OE, but if so, can someone direct me where to how to create such a list? Thanks, Lori
