Scott

What one person considers essential or vital in a pc unit is very much a
personal thing. As an example,, the Asus 1008ha, while a very admirable
netbook, would probably prove a very frustrating thing to me as I value
usb connectors (and this one, according to specs supplied on Amazon.com,
only has 2 of those.
For someone else, this matters not.
I have the patience for a 2-3 minute boot-up; and apparently you do not.
That is what makes recommendations received from others very difficult,
many times, to evaluate as one needs to know what they like (or do not
like) along with the reasons.
The other drawback, which the Amazon commentary mentions, is that while
the 1gb memory can be upgraded to 2gb, it apparently is difficult to get
at given the slim design of the 1008ha.
Personally, I always use an external keyboard as I cannot fathom how
anyone can possibly type on a netbook as I cannot even imagine myself
typing on a full-sized laptop.
On the other hand, my sighted wife has no difficulty handling the keyboard
of a laptop. It is all so very individualized and one's own comfort zones
I guess.

I believe that what one needs is often dependent on their circumstances
and uses and the compromises that they are willing to except as well as
the various trade-offs.
For some, size is imperative; for others, it is the immediacy of access.
For others, it is the flexibility of thd configuration, operating system,
whatever.

We have yet to go the Netbook route though I do check them out when
reading comments such as yours. I am becoming impressed with the
versatility of these units as well as their abilities. For the moment,
wireless keyboards meet my needsfor computing flexibility around the home
and with a laptop. If I were a road warrior, perhaps a netbook-style pc
would be higher on my list.
Right now, even if I owned one of these, my pc travel bag would still be
relatively large as I tend to carry a lot of peripheral items with me --
an external keyboard (either wired or wireless), a 2.5-inch external hd, a
a fm wireless transmitter and supportive cables, and so on.

Thanks for your comments, Scott, and especially for outlining the reasons
behind your choice.
