George, these are very good Ideas, thanks.
Someone on list, mentioned i might not have to worry about the serial
number, if i still have the recovery disk. Would xp and such programs be
loaded before i received the system?.

Not wanting to teach granddad how to chew backy, but can I suggest you keep a copy of Belarc's report on a separate floppy disk? If ever your system dies, gets stolen, meets its maker, or whatever, it's good to have if you can't get at the system for any reason.
Plus, if you are out shopping for bits, take it with you, and if the guy says, "What have you got at the moment?", you can give him the disk and tell him to look for himself.
