Hi David.
What are you trying to scan? If it’s documents like letters and the like, an
inexpensive flatbed scanner from Cannon or Epson would be a good fit for that,
models like the Canon LiDe range or Epson expression ranges will have you
covered there. If your scanning needs are more complex like for example books
or large format documents then something like a book edge scanner would be a
better choice, such as the Plustek Opticbook If you don’t mind upgrading your
printer as well or if you haven’t got one, an all in one could be a good fit
for you. I am a fan of the Epson Workforce range which also includes scanners
however Canon, HP and Brother all do models with ink or laser printing and
flatbed scanner options, some also have automatic document feeds which can scan
both sides of a page saving you time and labour. Finally, last but not least,
if you use a program like Open Book or Kurzweil, a desktop camera might be
worth looking into. Devices like the Pearl from Freedom Scientific will scan
your documents using a camera, they are much quicker but can be less accurate
than a flatbed because of lighting and other factors which are more controlled
in an enclosed space.
All the best, Ibrahim.
