You have to search on Google for accessable kindle for pc and it will come up just fine. Now to make things clear, your screen reader will read the menus but the 2 tts voices will read the book. If you have the standard kindle programme for your PC that sighted people use then this will not work. The accessable kindle for PC is a large file 250MB whereas the other is 75MB. You can check what you have installed and its size by going to the Control Panel of your PC. I would remove it before installing the other one. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Angel" <angel238@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>

I probably downloaded the wrong one. I didn't know there were two types. Thank you for telling me this. I will go up and see what other one I can access. Thank you for your most helpful post. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eleanor Burke" <eleanorburke@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Are you sure you downloaded the correct kindle app from Amazon. There is an access simple one and one suitable for sighted people.

I didn't know whether I should purchase a specialized Kindle player to listen to books. I found two books on Amazon I wanted to read. So, I got the free Kindle for the PC. I installed the application, and purchased my books. When I wanted to listen to the books, they wouldn't open. I don't know how to access the kindle for pc application. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Debby McCallan" <debramccallan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

I actually use a Kindle and they are not all enabled for that.

If you use Kindle for PC all books will be TTS enabled.

You also have to check that the book you want is TTS enabled if you are relying on speech.
You can do this in the "Details" section.

Hi Andy

Gordon has posted a link to download free books but, in the main, you have to buy them. And yes, Amazon is your place to do that. It is easy though, especially if you have an existing Amazon account. If not, just create one,
look for the book you want to buy, make sure the correct device is
highlighted you wish to download to, and Bob's your uncle or Sally's your
aunt!

There are a few versions of the Kindle though, so you would need to check which of them carries the accessibility features. I think RNIB has some blurb on this through their website. Give the list a shout if we can help
further.

Hi all, I'm so interested in these kindles and have been following most of

the post about this. so if I got one off these would I have to buy the

books or is there a free download for them? do you have to use amazon
all the time to get the books also?

Hi Jacky

Trouble is unless we buy one and test it, people like amazon
or tesco don't know much if anything about accessibility, it
puts us off.

Adrien

Hi Richard

But if some don't have an Apple device in order to use the
Kindle app, then
the Fire HDX is an alternative. I can't help wondering
though just how
accessible all its features are given the limits of the
Kindle Keyboard.

Exactly what I was thinking. I see no point in owning a
Kindle device
and rely on voiceover if the app does exactly the same thing
now.

Hi Adrien

Unless the Kindle Fire HDX does something phenomenally
well that the iOS
app
doesn't, I won't be buying it either. The Kindle Keyboard
was good but
fairly limited compared to the app. But those who don't
have an Apple
device may find the Kindle Fire HDX and such-like an
alternative. My
concern is that the HDX is only partly accessible which
then becomes a bit
of a bugger! (smile).
