I really feel my suggestion about the headphones would solve your problem but
if it doesn't have you thought of ringing the 24 are accessible apple line and
they will talk you through the issue and sorted for you. obviously you can't
operate the phone but your husband could be there and do as they instruct.

To re-set your phone, go to settings and I think it is the very last item in
the menu.
But in your place, I’d first try switching off my phone and putting it on
again.
Also, you may have accidentally switched Voiceover off so try asking Siri to
enable Voiceover or do the three finger tap to see if this switches it back
on.

This may nott work in this instance but try leave the phone off overnight for
example and try a restartt and you' be surprised as we wer when phone went
'dead' and that worked fine.
Apart from that resetting the phone looks like the only possible option

double tap which will turn speech back on.

Hi folk,
I phoned a friend and ever since my oiphone 13 is only making clicking
sounds, I’ve told serie to turn voice over off and on but no joy. I powered
down the phone with the side button and volume control, turned it on again
and still the same. I’m at a loss. My husband who has sight turned voice
over on and off in accessibility but nothing, just the clicks. Any ideas, I
can’t use the phone at all.
