Thank you to everyone who posted about the problem I was having. I don't
know what happened, but the VoiceOver volume dropped right down, yet I could
hear Siri with no difficulty. I put in my AfterShokz wired headphones, and
was able to hear VoiceOver, so checked everything was as it should be in
Accessibility. Then I removed the headphones while VoiceOver was reading
the entire screen to me, and couldn't hear anything. After moving the
volume button up for several seconds, VoiceOver eventually came into range.
I have no idea why this dropped out altogether, but it seems normal now.

Thanks to the ever faithful gang who are always there to help out, it is so
much appreciated. I must go and console my poor husband now, who thought he
had inadvertently damaged my iPhone! He has taken the dog off to play ball
in the garden, (smile). But at least I know what that switch above the
volume buttons does, and where it should be positioned now. You learn
something new every day, honest you do!

Kind regards,
