That is not quite true Colin. People are able to join themselves but it is by request. This means they can join themselves but their request must be aproved by the moderator before they can send or receive any messages. Subscription is not by invitation as this implies that only the owner or moderator can invite them.

Wendy, Clive's post is accurate, but please be aware that Recycle-it is
moderated and all messages are only posted to the list after this has been
completed so can be rather slow.  SecondHandZone is unmoderated in that
messages can freely be posted, but as Simon says, the guidelines are
somewhat strictly observed.  For instance,you *must* include at least some
information specifying whereabouts you are in the country - such as are
shown in my signature - but I've never had any problems with Ibby.

In both cases, the lists are closed, in that you can only join by invitation
hence you will not get junk emails such as have, in the past, happened on
AccessUK in it's Yahoo days.
