Hi Alison,
The simplest way to do this, if you are talking about Outlook, is to find
your document in My Documents, don't open it, but copy it to the clipboard.
Now go back to the body of your message, and press Control+V to paste it.
It will not paste it into the message, rather, it will attach it.
