Well I have a terrestrial aerial on my roof and it works fine with that. The question I think you need to answer is. How strong is the freeview signal in my area? I think I'm right in saying that even when the analogue signal is switched off, the majority of people will still be able to receive freeview with their current aerial.

I think watchdog did a report about a new scam where you get sales people knocking on your door trying to flog a digital aerial that you may never actually need. But obviously many people are worrying about not being able to receive TV anymore and will fall for this sort of thhing.

Darren.

Does this work with a terrestrial aerial or does it require a digital one? -

| Hi Matt
|
| Well I received the freeview box the other day and I must say I was
| impressed with how easy it was to setup and use. The remote control is set
| out in a very easy to use manner and the buttons are not cluttered in
silly
| places unlike a lot of other remote controls. . There are separate
buttons
| to toggle audio description or subtitles which is a nice touch.
|
| When first connected all you need to press is the OK button on the remote
| and it will auto tune. As I mentioned in my previous post I want to use
the
| receiver in a bedroom which doesn't have access to the roof top aerial. I
| initially tried it downstairs and it found all the channels within a
minute
| and the AD worked perfectly.
|
| Unfortunately upstairs I only have a loop antenna although I was quite
| surprised that by carefully adjusting the aerial I was able to tune in
quite
| a lot of the channels. It seems that the BBC stations are the easiest to
| get. Again I was pleasantly surprised that even with the loop antenna I
was
| able to receive the audio description. Even watched Jonny English the
other
| night on ITV2 and had the AD. It did take quite a bit of tweaking the
| aerial before I got the receiver to lock onto the signal, but I found that
| to be the case with all the non BBC channels.
|
| . I bought a mains powered aerial from Argos the other day to see if the
| reception could be improved a little, but unfortunately it didn't really
do
| much better than the loop antenna. I'll be taking it back to argos on
Monday
| for a refund. My only option now is to get someone to fit an aerial
| extension in the bedroom so I can access the roof top antenna and finally
| receive all the channels.
|
| For anyone thinking of purchasing a freeview box I would highly recommend | the Logik LDR V3 from Currys, but as I've just described for best results
| you need to connect it to a roof top aerial.
|
| Darren.

| Hi Darren
|
| Having done a little research on the Nebula tv card, and hav ing
previously
| tried to use a set top box with an internal ariel I am not sure that any
| digital TV reciever wil work with an internal ariel.
|
| Has anyone had any previous experience of this?

|
| Hi
|
| The freeview box you mentioned is the Logik, thats Logik with a K. LDR V3
| and is available from the Curry's website www.currys.co.uk and cost £66
| including delivery.
|
| I ordered one earlier this week and am awaiting its arrival.
Unfortunately
| I do not have access to the rooftop aerial in the room I want to have the
| box and will probably have to buy a decent indoor one to recieve the
digital
| channels, but I won't know that until I try it out.

|
| Hi
|
| I agree that the Virgin package is quite reasonably priced.
|
| The only other reasoable option is the new freeview box that has AD
| facilities on it, I thinkg I saw it quoted at £59. It doesn't have any
| other accessible features, but would work with your existing tv.
|
| The only tv sets I am aware of that have AD from Free view are made by
| Panasonic and Sony.
|
| All of this information is avaialbe on www.tvhelp.org.uk and they also
list
| the AD shows and DVDs.
|
| I would recommend the site.

|
| Hi all,
|
| Last Night I foolishly forgot that "The Bill" was on ITV1 at 8:00 PM, so I
| missed an episode. when I wrote to a discussion list related to the
| program, someone said that the program I had missed would be repeated on
| ITV3 on tomorrow.
|
| I can not currently receive ITV3 as I have an analogue TV, and as both my
| self and my wife are fans of "The Bill, and my wife is totally Blind, we
| were thinking about looking into replacing our current TV with a model
that
| is accessible and can pick up freeview, (although we would not be able to | have an external aerial fitted as we live in a shared ownership property,
| partly owned by a Housing association), so I am wondering if anyone can
| point me in the direction of any accessible models of TV that they think I
| should look at.
|
| Thank you in advance for any advice.
