Hi Jackie, I wholeheartedly agree with what you say. I have also texted 5live
but got no response. I wish there was a way to watch the tennis on telly and
cut out a lot of the chat because even on the telly you get a lot of junk. my
other gripe is that I wish they would shut up while the score is being given
and that the umpires should wait until the crowd have died down before giving
the score. anyway won’t rant any more. Janet ps give us back the sport and
not the waffle

Hi Andy
I’ve never been a rugby fan until recent years when living in Northern Ireland
has made me want to cheer for and support the Ireland team. The problem I have
with Five Live more and more though is the amount of wittering they do during
the action. This is not exclusive to rugby, try following a tennis match when
they are talking about anything and everything between points. For that
reason, I tend to have the radio on, but accompany it with the TV commentary as
well, particularly if there is tennis on, because I feel we miss out on so much
of the match. I’ve actually texted Five Live on a number of occasions now to
tell them to tone down the wittering and give more concentration to the match
in hand. I once counted Ian Dennis saying the same phrase eight times in one
half of a football match: ‘This is BBC Five Live’, it just drove me nuts to
hear him constantly plugging the station when I’m sure most people knew what
they were listening to anyway. Since they’ve dropped two commentators per game
now, they use ‘expert pundits’ to chat all the way through a match whether it
be rugby, football, tennis or whatever else. It can be really distracting, and
Five Live favours the Premier League over everything else as well.
I know there is a discrepancy between live TV and radio commentary,
particularly if you are like me and follow it on a Smart speaker. There is
often a delay of 20 or 30 seconds but that’s the way it is with streaming
nowadays.
Enjoy!
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

Hi Andy, I entirely agree with you regarding being able to watch the
television and listen to the radio at the same time, you would think in this
day and age that listening to both would be possible. Just a thought for you
are the scottish games on radion Scotland? they do try and have a person from
each team in the commentary box. Enjloy the rugby however you listen to it and
yes last night’s game was brilliant. Janet

Subject: [access-uk] Your thoughts re described TV rugby
Hi all.
For rugby fans like myself, I'm looking forward to a fabulus few weeks
entertainment.
Last nights Wales v Franse was a spectacular meeting.
I'm really looking forward to my own team, Scotland, v Italy at 2 pm, then
England and all the other games later this afternoon and evening.
However, although the Scotland v Italy game is being broadcast by BBC 1
Scotland, I'll be listening to what I would consider the best audio
description, in any sport and that is currently being provided by the 5 Live
team in England.
Obviously, there is a presumption that as my game is on TV and people can see
their TV's, there is no great desire to include the audio from the 5 Live team
on top. But why not?
To get around this problem, I've tuned into 5 life on my Iphone whilst the
games are being showen on BBC 1 Scotland, in my local pub, but there is of
course a 20 second delay So there is no seamless Time Code between these, so
it does not work.
I just feel that such a high quality descrittion service, as 5 Live provide, on
top of the TV image, would grately enhance my overall listening enjoyment as a
totally blind person.
Any thoughts?
There is also another problem and that is if I was listening to Scotland v
England at Twickenham on 5 Live, there must be reasonable bias, such as you
would get if Scotland were playing England in Murrayfield with scottish
presenters!
So I think it's perfectly resonable that I be able to listen to Scotland V
England with scottish or better, mixed presenters that to be honest, does
occure sometimes within the 5 live presentation.
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on this and regardless which team you
will be supporting during the 6 Nations, you have a really great experience.
Very best wishes.
Andy Logue.
