System Restore does NOT HAVE to be turned off to do an actual scan.

However, if a problem is found, and you find that after attempting to
clean it, there is still a problem, it is usually because the virus or
whatever has got itself into the system restore files.

That's when you need to disable System Restore, rescan and clean, and
then turn it back on.

Subject: [access-uk] Virus scan and system restore

Hello all,

Windows XP

Is it true that system restore has to be turned off before cleaning
viruses for the cleaning process to be effective or is this just an
urban myth?

The logic dictates that even if the system restore files don't get
cleaned, one has to restore the system to a date before the cleaning
process for any nasty files to come back to the system, right?

Enlighten me please!

Cheers,

Amro
