Hi iTunes is great for restoring devices too. Last night was the first time
ever going from memory I restored a device in iTunes for Windows. Everything
worked like a charm.

over to a device, it has ideas of its own. I will therefore use another
device to play my own collection, and my iOS devices for everything else. I

me. Similarly, iCloud is fine for backing up your purchases, contacts etc,
but I believe you can only store so much of your own music there before you
have to start paying.

hi jackie try the cloud from itunes it saves putting stuff on the device
only trouble is if you're out of a wiffi spot you're stuck. one thing i
thought about doing was to get a good few sd cards for the sense and stick
loads of music on the cards. itunes is a real pain i know you can do these
things but it is real difficult. because i have fibre optic hear for #21 for
a month i can stream anything and i do not go over my limmit.

I couldn't agree with you more.
I have spent the entire morning with iTunes and messing around trying
to sync my own music over. I did it, but I just didn't like the way
it was laid out on my device, and after getting in a tangle with
playlists, I restored my iPod Touch to factory defaults. I now have
it back to my purchased music only, and unless I can be taught how to
use that horrible iTunes program, I will just stick to using it for
transferring and backing up what I have bought.
As you say, by the time you need to use the program again, most of
what you did before is forgotten or irrelevant as things have changed.
Who wants to write or record an idiot's guide to using iTunes?

It does my head in also and I use it as little as possible, so by the
time I do have to use again, I've forgotten the little I knew to start
with! Wish someone would do more of a teach-in podcast, so a number
of sessions and taking through bit by bit, but I guess, by the time
they completed it, a new version would be out and things would have

I sort of see what you need to do in iTunes now, and have partly
managed to achieve it.
I copied a folder of my own music to the Automatically Add To iTunes
folder on my PC. I then went into iTunes, and selected Music from
the list where Summary is at the top. Then I checked the box for
only adding selected items. I let my iPod sync, then checked to see
if the music I wished to transfer had landed on my device and it
had.
The only problem now is that it appears under the My Music tab on my
iPod alongside all my purchases. This is fine, except I had
intended the folder of music I transferred to be in a folder of its
own, but it isn't.
How then do I get the 100 tracks I transferred from my own
collection into
a
folder of their own, even though I did put the said songs within a
folder in iTunes to start with? Is it that I have to create a
playlist for these songs and, if so, how do I do that now the stuff
is on my device?
Sorry to ask so many questions, my head feels scrambled with the
amount of concentration the hateful iTunes has demanded of me
lately! (smile.)

Hi Jackie.
Do you have your music loaded in iTunes? You will need to do this
as the first step.
If so, do you want to load all of your music in your iTunes library
or just some selective tracks or albums?
If you want to load all of your iTunes library, when your phone is
connected, go into the device menu and select the music tab. Tab
until you find the radio button Sync entire music library and press
spacebar to select it.
Alternatively, if you only want a selective list, the best way to do
this is to create a playlist in Itunes and add your music to that
playlist. Now again when your phone is connected, go into the
device menu and tab to the Music tab and press spacebar to select
it. Tab until you find the radio button Sync selected playlists,
artists and genres and press spacebar to select it.
Now tab to the playlists tree view and arrow down to your playlist
and press spacebar to select it.
Once you have done either of the above, tab to the sync button,
press spacebar and the music will be loaded to your phone.

Please accept my apologies, I realise this might be a tedious thread
for some people.
Using the latest iTunes and iOS releases, I want to transfer some of
my own music onto one of my iOS devices. Using a Windows PC and
latest JAWS release, does someone please have step-by-step
instructions on how to do this? I have my data backed up, and I can
see my iTunes purchases on my devices. But I just can't seem to
work out how to get anything from my own collection across.
