My NVDA tells me if a message is unread which is all that matters.

Michael, I believe that it's hard for screen readers to tell accurately whether a mail is read or unread. NVDA hasn't got the video interception setup that JAWS has, so it may just be one of life's annoyances for the time being.

While you're in a list of messages, you can use insert plus B for Bravo to read the status line, which can tell you how many read and unread mails there are.

Vince.

Hello list.

This isn't strictly an accessibility issue but I am hoping there is someone here who can help.

I recently had a PC failure and have started using another Windows XP machine.

I have set up Outlook Express and it works fine except mails never get marked as read. It is set to mark mails as read after 5 seconds but this never happens. NVDA always says 'unread' when I highlight a message.

In the context menu the 'mark as read' option is greyed out but when I select view and select 'hide read messages' they all disappear.

Any ideas?

Mike Ray
