Hi Paul
I can understand what you mean, but mine doesn’t do that so maybe it’s one of
these tiny inconsistencies between models of the same ilk.
They are both nice displays, I would recommend either. I just like the BI
units, the reading experience for me is just that bit more comfortable than on
the Focus. If you factor in the whole package though, which is important when
purchasing, the HumanWare experience is better in my view.
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

Hi Jackie,
Maybe squeak is the wrong word, but it makes an irritating noise when I press
the keys down. Scratchy or graty perhaps? I should point out that I’m deaf
(wear hearing aids), and the noise irritates me for some reason. On the Focus
its quiet like the larger BI 32 and 40 Brailliants.
Does that make sense?
Paul

Hi Paul
I find your observations really interesting. When you say the BI14 keyboard
squeaks, what do you mean? Mine doesn’t do that so I’m curious.
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

Hi Mandy,
I have both the Focus 14 Blue and the Brailliant BI 14. I prefer the Focus 14
Blue out of the two. I find the braille display to be superior, the
perkins-style keyboard doesn’t squeak like the BI 14, and general it built
better. I like the scratchpad that is found on the 40 and 80 models. One thing
I do like about the Brailliant BI 14 is the Sync app. It’s very easy to share
notes.
All the best, Paul

Subject: [access-uk] Small Braille Displays.
Hi All.
Next year I hope to have a little money at my disposal so am thinking of
treating myself to a small Braille display.
I use my Focus 40 extensively and really enjoy it and so I could buy the Focus
14 but am wondering what else is on the market.
The Brailliant has been suggested to me and I see it costs £800 and something,
I am considering that one and would request a demo, I know exactly what I want
from a display and would compare it to the Focus.
I want something as quiet as possible both for reading and writing: I do not
want either the BrailleMe nor the Orbit.
Any suggestions with reasons for the choices in view of what I have said?
A simple notetaker would be useful as with the scratchpad on the Focus and
perhaps the facility to convert text files although reading books is not so
necessary with such a small display: really it is mainly for taking when I am
away and would be used only with my Apple products for texting and emailing
with, as I said, perhaps the functions of notetaking and reading books as a
lesser consideration.
Mandy.
