The feel of the Braille is really very much a personal thing. that said, I
think the dots on the Brailliant feel a little more rounded than on the focus.
As to the noise of the Brailliant keyboard, I think I can hear where you're
coming from. It's a kind of raspy noise.

Hi Iain,
I too find the keys spongy on the BI 14 but it’s the noise of these keys that
drives me to distraction in quiet environments.
As for the actual braille display I think that is a very personal thing. I’ve
only used the 5th Gen. models so I can’t say if they are the same or
different to the older models, but I don’t find the Focus scratchy.

My experience of the two is that the Brailliant keyboard feels a bit more
spongy than the Focus. Somehow it's a softer press if that makes any sense. I
prefer the Braille on the Brailliant as I find it not as scratchy as the
Focus. I should say at this point that my Focus is not the most recent
generation. Of the two, the Brailliant is the one I use most of the time.

Hi Paul
I find your observations really interesting. When you say the BI14 keyboard
squeaks, what do you mean? Mine doesn’t do that so I’m curious.
Kind regards,

Hi Mandy,
I have both the Focus 14 Blue and the Brailliant BI 14. I prefer the Focus 14
Blue out of the two. I find the braille display to be superior, the
perkins-style keyboard doesn’t squeak like the BI 14, and general it built
better. I like the scratchpad that is found on the 40 and 80 models. One
thing I do like about the Brailliant BI 14 is the Sync app. It’s very easy to
share notes.

Hi All.
Next year I hope to have a little money at my disposal so am thinking of
treating myself to a small Braille display.
I use my Focus 40 extensively and really enjoy it and so I could buy the
Focus 14 but am wondering what else is on the market.
The Brailliant has been suggested to me and I see it costs £800 and
something, I am considering that one and would request a demo, I know exactly
what I want from a display and would compare it to the Focus.
I want something as quiet as possible both for reading and writing: I do not
want either the BrailleMe nor the Orbit.
Any suggestions with reasons for the choices in view of what I have said?
A simple notetaker would be useful as with the scratchpad on the Focus and
perhaps the facility to convert text files although reading books is not so
necessary with such a small display: really it is mainly for taking when I
am away and would be used only with my Apple products for texting and
emailing with, as I said, perhaps the functions of notetaking and reading
books as a lesser consideration.
Mandy.
