Hi Mandy

 

In my own view, it’s the best display at pairing with your phone, and I love 
the Braille cells.  If you use the Notes app on an iPhone, you can synchronise 
the notes you make either on your BI14 or the phone itself.

 

I like the Focus 14 Blue, especially the fifth generation, but the BI14 is my 
favourite of the two.  It’s horses for courses Mandy, ask for a demo so you can 
make an informed choice.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions:  I will probably go for the Brailliant 
Bi14  as it sounds like it is what I am looking for.

Just out of interest Jacky, what makes it preferable in your opinion to the 
Focus as I believe you do have the Focus 40 like me.

Of the smaller displays, I would recommend either a Focus or, more favourably, 
the Brailliant BI14.  I have this display and really love it.  It connects 
seamlessly with my iPhone when using it for those occasions, and I like the 
interaction with the Notes app which synchronises them nicely.  There is the 
Esys range and Hims Smart Beetle, but with all those options at my disposal, it 
would be either a Focus or Bi14.

Hi All.

 

Next year I hope to have a little money at my disposal so am thinking of 
treating myself to a small Braille display.

 

I use my Focus 40 extensively and really enjoy it and so I could buy the Focus 
14 but am wondering what else is on the market.

 

The Brailliant has been suggested to me and I see it costs £800 and something, 
I am considering that one and would request a demo, I know exactly what I want 
from a display and would compare it to the Focus.

 

I want something as quiet as possible both for reading and writing:  I do not 
want either the BrailleMe nor the Orbit.

 

Any suggestions with reasons for the choices in view of what I have said?

 

A simple notetaker would be useful as with the scratchpad on the Focus and 
perhaps the facility to convert text files although reading books is not so 
necessary with such a small display:  really it is mainly for taking when I am 
away and would be used only with my Apple products for texting and emailing 
with, as I said, perhaps the functions of notetaking and reading books as a 
lesser consideration.
