I think the point made by Pele is important here. The filler loop, as it’s
known in the trade, is not played all the time on DAB presumably because the
BBC would rather have the bandwidth back for something else. My understanding
is that some of the Wireless for the Blind fund sets receive their stations via
the internet where, as Paul has indicated, the loop is broadcast continuously.

Hi Peter and Jackie,
Please, I have a curious phenomenon with a Pure Sonus (the model on which the
speech-output XT was based.
When Radio 5 Sports Extra has a live broadcast it can pick it up fine.
However once the live transmission stops it is incapable of picking up the
endlessly-repeating jingle (blessing in disguise?)
I know Sports Extra transmits 24 hours a day, it is received in such manner
by my Sonata.
So perhaps both models might work, you need to test them when something live
is going out on Sports Extra.

Hi Peter
The Roberts Play definitely gets it, and I think is one of the models
supplied by BWBF. It's very strange that the sets they demonstrated to you
don't get it though. Even when there is no live sport on Sports Extra,
there is generally this awful jingle that repeats itself for hours.
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

An ancient radio supplied by the Wireless fund finally gave up and a
volunteer brought a couple of others to try out - an Opus and a Concerto.
Neither of them were able to receive Radio 5 Live Sports Extra and the Opus
was particularly limited. I know that the DAB signal is OK in this area for
most stations. I can pick up almost anything with my old Pure model.
Has anybody else had this sort of trouble or perhaps could suggest a model
supplied by the fund which works better?
Thanks.
Peter
