No Steve, I said if I were selling items over a thousand it would not be viable. I don't sell items of that value, I was saying if I did I could not offer the payment plan.

Barbara, you need to be extremely careful here. In one of your last posts, you stated very clearly that for items over £100, you give the client 3 months to pay for it. Now, when Steve asks you, you are saying that if it costs a thousand, it's not viable. An honourable practice as it may be, now that you've mentioned it on a public list you could get inundated with requests but now you're saying that you don't for expensive products.

So, Iif I come to you and ask for a new N86 phone, I can have 3 months to pay for it but if I want something with KNF, I can't? Is that right?

Hi Steve

Well, I wouldn't sell as much as you, so the demand for this isn't as huge as it would be if you asked for it. Mostly as well it is on services, such as training. But yes, I do offer it on products. Were I selling products at say £1,000.00, then this would not be viable. However, when the product amounts to around £300.00, this is not as big a drain as you might think.

Hi Barbara,

Are you saying then that you do this and don't charge any interest? So you buy the item up front and give the customer three months to pay for it? So that's three months potential interest you are losing on the item. How do
you afford it?

All the best

Yes. Bear in mind I don't sell as wide a range of products as the likes of
Steve and George etc.

BTW George, I asked my accountant as I was concerned about this, and she said you only need to be registered if you charge interest on your payment plans. She said if they are a straightforward break up of the original cost into more than one payment, then any business can do this. Only when you
charge interest or make a final payment demand in excess of the final
payment amount do you need to be registered.

Hi Barbara. Regarding your earlier post are you offering payment plans for

items which have a value above £100?

Hi Steve

I agree with all this. I've only ever had to chase one customer and if I
ever got ripped off then that would be the time at which I would
reconsider offering the plan.

Hi Martin,

There's a bit more to it than that. A credit card is not secure from
the
vendor's point of view. As a customer, you can block anyone from taking money from a credit card. So I would say there is no foolproof way to
have
finance plans, without the risk of chasing for payment, especially with
expensive equipment.

For example, if I sold you a KNFB Reader, you activated it, and paid
your
first month's payment, and no more, we have no deactivation process.
With
Window-Eyes on the other hand, we can activate it for each 30 days, so
if
you don't pay the following month, it will simply expire.

So there does need to be some protection in place for the vendor as
well, if
the customer defaults. Yes, we can chase, and take the customer to the
small claims court, or whatever, but it is all costly and time
consuming.

Don't get me wrong, not all customers are going to default by any means,

but
I am just pointing out that it is not just the big bad business out
there,
taking money off you and not having a payment plan. It is more complex
than
it looks to set it up.

All the best

Steve

With respect steve, I did not want this to become an attack and defence discussion of we do this, they do that. I was putting the idea out for discussion to those who directly vend, those who resell, and those who
purchase the software or hardware to see what the support was for
payment
plans, why they were, or were not implemented at this time, etc, etc.
For
instance, surely, a company, regardless of the products they sell, if
they
wish, can make payment plans for expencive software/hhardware if they
wish,
with the appropriate safeguards of course, such as taking a credit card
number/direct debit mandate etc, in case of default on behalf of
purchaser.
Thoughts?

Hi all.

In this time of resession, or at any time really, what with the costs of
access tec being prohibiitivly expencive for most, why are not more
companies iether resellers or at source venders making available payment
plans? I know serotek do various plans for their system access
products,
and window eyes do their payment plans too, which I believe are
supported by
resellers in both cases, but do any others do payment plans? Sight and
sound for knfb reader mobile or hjaws for instance? Computer room
services
for knfb reader mobile or braille displays? Thoughts?
