Hi Kevin - I don't think AA will allow me to make the first deposit by me using the phone to get my bank to do the transfer, as they ask for the first deposit to be made by cheque--all part of their identity check process I understand. But at least sending a cheque will get the account open and running - Andy ----- Original Message ----- From: Kevin Lloyd To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, August 15, 2010 2:50 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Online banking card machines Hi Andy. I would have thought your bank would allow you to make the transfer by telephone while you wait for a card reader. Having said that, as previously stated, you won't need a card reader if you log in to your AA account and click on the make a deposit or regular deposit options. The only issue is that the dd set up can take up to 10 days for the first time and so if you need to transfer more quickly, you'll need to get your bank to do the transfer. Regards. When I was talking to my bank, I asked about transferring money out in to a savings account, and they said I needed a card reader to do this. Looking on the AA savings site, they seem to be saying that all that is needed is to give them my bank's sort code and account number, and they will be able to debit my bank account for the amount I wish to transfer. Perhaps I got somebody at the bank that didn't quite understand, or know their stuff! On the subject of card readers, when I set up online banking, there wasn't an option to request a talking card reader. I checked the box requesting a card reader, hoping that I would then get the option of a standard or accessible one, but no such luck. I rang the bank about this, and they said because I had made the request online for a reader, I'd have to leave it a couple of days, and ring back to request a talking one. Wasn't too impressed with that, as I wish to make this transfer pretty quickly - Andy ----- Original Message ----- From: Kevin Lloyd To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, August 14, 2010 8:42 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Online banking card machines Hi Andy. You won't need a card reader to use your AA account. When you've logged into the AA account you'll be able to deposit funds into your account by direct debit from your current account or send funds from your AA account to your current account. It's a really easy site to use and it's won awards in the past for it's simplicity and ease of use. Regards. The AA have a savings account that they link to existing bank accounts. Anybody know if I'd need one of these card reader machines in order to make deposits and withdrawals? The AA savings website does ask that applicants have a current account that accept the direct debit system, so I'm wondering if it might be that I just tell the AA website how much I want to deposit or withdraw, and they do the rest via DD. Thanks for any clarification - Andy ----- Original Message ----- From: Barbara Wilson To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, August 12, 2010 7:08 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Online banking card machines Hi Andy Contact your bank, they should have a talking version of the card reader. I am with Ulster Bank (Part of RBS) and they gave me a talking one which is fully accessible. On the face of it, not accessible, but I seem to recall that some listers on here had worked out, probably with their bank, a work around for this. I was looking at Tesco online bank, and it requires this method for banking, so would appreciate hearing of how users have got around this problem Thanks - Andy __________ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signature database 5361 (20100812) __________ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com
