There seems to be a degree of hit and miss with this. I use Ocado and by and
large the drivers are totally happy to bring my shopping into my kitchen and
put the bags on the table once they know I am blind. I say by and large, last
Sunday's driver told me that he wasn't allowed to do this, something I know to
be untrue, but did once I explained again that I was blind and that other
drivers were happy to do it. A friend of mine in a different part of the
country who also uses Ocado has had more issues with drivers refusing to put
things where she needs them. I think that some drivers are using the excuse of
the supermarket as a cover. Ocado are clear in that they leave it entirely up
to the driver, something I am not happy with as with face masks and maintaining
a distance, not to mention gloves the risk is tiny and bringing the shopping
in, particularly for people like us with disabilities should be a part of the
job.
Then there's Sainsburys who have shifted to bagless delivery by default and who
do expect the customer to bring the stuff in themselves. A couple of weeks ago
when the new lockdown was announced and the idiots mass booked I had to use
Sainsburys. I rang them and explained that I was blind and it would take me
ages to bring everything in bit by bit and given that would they put my stuff
in bags and if at all possible get the driver to bring it to the kitchen table.
I was told that the message had been passed on to the store and the driver
would be informed. Cynical me, but I asked my mum to come over expecting that
this would not happen, and guess what it didn't. Luckily my mum was able to
bring things in a lot faster than I could have.
So, in sum, like so much else I think the help you get depends on the
individual driver and that often depends on whether you get the same driver who
gets to know you.
Returning to Ocado, in addition to the App there's also a skill for the Echo
which is really useful when I'm cooking and run out of something. I can just
add it to my shopping basket.

Hi All
I use Ocado and don’t have any issues. The app is very easy to use.

Hi, I agree, I use Sainsbury’s all the time, and once the delivery people know
you they will come into the house and put things on your countertop for you.
They are extremely good, one person in my road was having a delivery at six in
the evening, I could not get my delivery until 730, but the man had the sense
to come and see if I was in and delivered it when he delivered the other ladies
shopping. Hope this helps

Message Body HiAll.
I used to shop at Morrisons, even had a delivery pass but their slots are now
almost impossible to get. They do, however, do a doorstep delivery where you
phone a different number, give your list (it can just be three items if you
like) and it is delivered the very next day and you simply pay with your card
at the door.
Only problem, you don't know what you will get and what will be substituted.
So now I shop with Tesco but they won't take on new dekivery passes and I
have to pay £4'50 for every dekivery.
I am registered with all of these supermarkets and am looking at Sainsbury's.
I have always liked Sainsbury's and like their app but I read in an email
that they won't bring shopping into the house and that you have to provide
bags or containers for them to load your shopping into. We tend to buy a lot
so this would not work.
Pealease, anybody shopping with Sainsbury's, is this what happens?
Also, are they taking on new delivery passes?
Sorry for the length of this email.
Mandy.
