Whilst what Steve says may well be the answer, I had the same problem and
somehow, on the recorder the USB setting had changed.  When I reset back to
to variable from pc, the settings on my DN550 are variable, pc, ac-adaptor.
This can be found under the device settings menu.

Once set to pc I've had no further problems.
