the main thing to look at is how you connect your laptop whether you stick
with what you have or whether you buy another. if you have a wireless
router you should connect your laptop to the rooter with a cable to check it
is not a problem with the wireless link.

While the laptop you bought through ebay is not the fastest in the world, it
certainly should be fast enough to use the internet and download things as
well as playing audio of various kinds.

Hi Graham.

I'm not sure about most of those things: however I've made my decision
now and am going to resell the Dell on Ebay and try to buy a dell to my
specifications with the money I've been granted that I was originally
going to use for Window-Eyes which I have decided not to buy after all.
Well it's a woman's privilege to change her mind but I've
Told those who gave the money and explained why.

Thanks for the reply though.

Mandy, I don't think the speed of the laptop should have much to do with

whether or not it stays on the internet or not. can you hardwire it in
to
your rooter using an ethernet cable?

when you install JAWS, does the whole laptop run slowly? try editing a
word
document for example.

How much RAM does it have as well? in my experience, you need at least
512MB of RAM.

The graphics are likely to share system memory as well so you may need
to
make sure that as little as possible memory is used by the graphics
chip.
it may be possible to control this in the BIOS.

Cheers

Graham

Mandy,

Before you dump the laptop, think about other problems that may exist.
My new DELL laptop wouldn't stay on the internet, or knocked everything
else out wirelesssly, but it wasn't the laptop so much as the older
router, coupled with the separate wireless add-on that did it. Now I'm
very happily using anything from BrailleNote to my fast laptop and not
so behind desktop!

If you want the one computer to do everything however, including the
download of these large music files, then of course you may have made a
blunder; but sell it on and get on! That's all you can do.
