Hi,
Yes, the phone is not dead, it is likely at the PIN entry prompt. You may need
to get someone sighted to enter your PIN for you, then your phone should come
back.
I would caution against upgrading to 16, at this point, if you haven't yet.
If you have, you may still be able to roll back. I must say Apple's quality
control has taken a dive over the last few years, especially where VO is
concerned.
All the best
Steve

Hi All,
Sadly I have been caught out by the bug which crashes Voiceover when the phone
is turned off so of course I now have a dead phone. As luck would have it I
have updated my second phone so I do have a working phone. I wondering if my
currently dead Iphone SE 2020 can be revived. Screen cuurtin in currently
turned on so I know sighted people cannot see it. Does anybody know if screen
curtin can be turned off if voiceover is not working.

Apple will probably release an interim build of iOS 16 to address some
of these isues, remember this is the initial release of iOS and Apple
has released the iPhone somewhat earlier this year than usual. iOS
16.1 is currently in beta so I've no doubt that will be resolved
sooner rather than later.
All the best, Ibrahim.

Hi Vanja
I agree with you in the sense that the beta cycle has been going for
months, and notification access should have been picked up and
rectified, one would have thought. So far, I haven't found any other
major problems with iOS16, but I primarily use my iPhone for calls,
texts, checking Emails, using Twitterrific, reading news notifications
and accessing the Sonos app. I haven't seen anything untoward with
any of these tasks except for the notifications bug that we've been
discussing. Sometimes, I think large tech companies just tweak the
look and feel of a device to encourage people to buy it. I don't
think Apple is the exception to this practice, Google, Amazon,
Microsoft et al are all guilty of it. I am wondering if it is iPhone
model specific where the notification bug is occurring. It shouldn't be
happening, but there you go.
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

Well this seems pretty bad. According to many double tap and hold
makes no difference for things like Youtube.
I have not upgraded yet, mainly because an Android phone is my
primary device, speaking of which if this happened on Android/talkback
we'd hear all sorts of outrage from *some* people about how horrible
google is and how this is why blind people shouldn't use Android.
Apple has had entire beta process to fix this shit and this is not the
first time they've released a new version of an OS with significant
access bugs. Perhaps accessibility is not quite as important to apple as it
used to be.
Going back to bugs themselves, to me notifications are one of the fave
ways of accessing content so I'd be rather annoyed if this was my main
device.
Also, if VO does randomly just stop working...well, that's self
explanatory as to why that is quite a horrible thing.
Sure, everyone makes mistakes and let's hope that those issues get
fixed soon. It just seems that like within many companies these days
when it comes to Apple access is getting neglected for the sake of
better cameras/displays or features that improve those aspects of
software/OS. If I'm wrong I'd love for someone to respond with an
counter argument, but based on the fact or at least on what people on
this list and elsewhere are reporting that's what it feels like to me.

Yes, I was going to post something about that. When I receive a text
message, I would normally double-tap to reply to it where I am dropped
into the edit field to respond. The only way I can do that now is to
double-tap and hold, then the edit field to reply comes up. When I
have sent the text, I am dropped back to where the notification came
in. I am using Eloquence, and changed the voice to see if that was
the problem, but it doesn't appear to be.
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

am pleased to say I haven't had that, but I am having a rather
annoying issue where notifications won't open/activate since upgrading.

I haven’t had to restart my iPhone yet which is where the bug can
appear. I had the public beta installed on my iPad and never had such
a problem and it is quite a big one if it happens to affect you.
