Dean, thank you, I tried this, and it makes no difference. I turned it on, for
ring, and it still will not read out the settings and lists of events. Thanks
anyway

You will find it in settings, accessibility, VoiceOver and finally VoiceOver
recognition. It is a feature you normally turn on in the rota when you are
struggling to use an app as it offers a different kind of intelligence to
find on-screen items and buttons. It is the kind of thing I toggle on
sometimes for a certain bit of an app and then off again.
In the settings, you will find a button at the end called apply to apps. The
name of the button will also tell you if it is turned on for any apps, so you
will know if that is your issue.

Dean, I have not heard of a screen recognition setting before, so where
would I find it to check it in this app, please? Cheers

Have you checked that screen recognition hasn’t accidentally turned itself
on in that particular app? That can cause issues and some people are
unaware it has happened. Of course that isn’t an iOS 16 issue. Occasionally
notifications don’t open for me, but always do on the second time of asking.

I upgraded my iPhone 12 mini to iOS 16, and it has rendered the ring app
unusable. I can no longer control my cameras and home alarm with it,
though everything seems to still be working. VoiceOver appears to work
with everything else so far.

for anybody upgrading their iPhone please be aware that if you choose
IOS 16 voiceover may not work.  it is advised by Apple Accessibility that
