Hi: As a minimum I want to run a ssh and http/s servers. Are you
saying this isn't possible with Virgin?
Hi Les,
You can get a static IP with them, I think it adds about a pound a month.
The router is accessible, but it depends on what servisces you want to run,
IE, if you want to run a server, you'll need to get their business account.
They also don't do Reverse DNS, that is to say reversing your domain name
back to a different DNS server, but you won't have this problem as you don't
have your own domain name. They were a pain for me, as a person who runs
servers, but they'll be fine for you.
The router is also pretty accessible.
I can't answer about where they will and won't install it though.
All the best
Steve

Subject: [access-uk] I want a new ISP
Having been with Demon Internet since 1994, its time to look for a new
ISP. I'm considering Virgin Media, chiefly because their fibre runs
down our street.
My questions are:
Is there router/modem accessable. Presuming it has a web interface, is
it plastered in javascript?
Do they block any ports?
Can I get a static IP?
Will they install the modem/router at a place convenient for us,
rather than at a place most convenient for them?
Any other nasties I should kmow about?
Thanks.
