Yes, their router is based on a netgear device and is accessible. It
does have prompts that come up sometimes which utilise javascript, but
i've been able to get around them with little or no fuss. for example
when it asks you if you want to continue with something or prompts you
to change your default password, click on the OK popup link that comes
up near the bottom of the page near the prompt. sometimes jaws gets
stuck in forms mode and you have to get it out of forms mode before you
can get to the prompt or just tab to it. a very useful function is
modem only mode. this means if you really hate their interface, disable
the router and just plug your own cable router in to it to handle WiFi,
port forwarding, routing functions etc.
as far as I'm aware they don't block any ports. they may limit bandwidth
at certain times of day, but all ISPS do that.
you should be able to get a static IP, though having said that the
dynamic ones don't seem to change that often.
If the engineer is decent, then yes he should install the modem where
you want. i know in my house we were able to specify and they just
stapled the wire a long skirting boards etc to get it to where i wanted.
there isn't really anything else to mention apart from the fact that i
wish i could go back to them. i'm stuck with talk talk in my current
area and waiting what seems like forever for fiber to become available.
i'm on a 5MBPS connection at the moment.
