That might be true if you need to access Windows 98 or earlier systems, but Microsoft's own words:- "Before you back up your computer for the first time, you'll want to be sure your external hard drive is formatted with the New Technology File System (NTFS)." The full article explains a great deal. http://tinyurl.com/2k5n4z The full URL is: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/tips/advanced/ntfs.mspx George. -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Kulvinder Sent: 23 April 2009 12:30 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: Hard Drive, FAT32 or NTFS You really ought to try and keep all the external storage as FAT32 sothat if you wish to use these drives on other systems as well as yours, then it will be possible.NTFS doesn't allow you to do this. I notice that my C Drive and one of my external hard drives is NTFS,the other external drive is FAT32. Does this mix and match matter, or should all drives be uniform? In case its relevant, the two NTFS drives are 80 and 400 GB in size, whilst the FAT32 drive is 60GB. Thanks for any and all clarification.
