Hi Carol

thank you for getting back to me, and on Christmas Eve! Please don't have any worries about the time which has passed as I have yet to get to grips with my new iphone, which languishes on my desk along with the CD about how to get to grips with it!

I have been distracted by other matters, visitors, travel and a fear of actually trying to learn how to use it. However, I do plan to finally set too and listen to the CD book and try to start the sharp learning curve everyone speaks of when switching from a Nokia to an iphone.

Once I have started I am certain I could benefit from some friendly and expert advice from you.

Meanwhile I hope your current poor health starts to improve and that by the time we get in touch again in the new year that you are back to full health.

Have a great Christmas and New Year.

Kindest regards
Robin

Hi Robin,

Just looking through my pending pile and realise that I never heard back from
you when I explained I was teaching a couple of guys ...

I expect by now you are doing well with your phone as there's certainly a lot
of help out there.

Let me know if this is not the case and I'll help if I can. However, I'm not
too well at all right now so have to keep things down to a minimum and
sometimes I just can't help as I'd like as I need more rest!

Anyway, let me know how you're getting on.

I trust Christmas will be good for you.

With kind regards:

Hi Carol

I saw your response to Richard and wondered if you were someone who could
also assist me?

Like Richard I am keen to improve my IT skills with my PC and mobile and am
currently thinking of getting an iphone and changing from my Nokia.

I am attending the RNIB taster day at the end of the month but reckon I will
also need some one to one help as I get to grips with the new phone and
Voice Over and Siri etc.

I live in West London, Hammersmith, and am happy to get help by phoning
someone like you with more knowledge. Would you be able to assist in this
way? Not a problem if not but I thought it worthwhile asking.

Kind regards
Robin

Richard,

I noticed that you mentioned Applevis. They do a lot of very good podcasts
and, if you can take the time to listen and learn gradually, you may well
get quite a long way with the phone without actually having to have help
from others on an individual basis.

Having said that, I know that some people do need some one to one help. I
don't know where you are based, but I am already helping to people. If you
are near enough to me then maybe I can help you further.

Please write directly, if you wish, and let me know where you're based.

I think that this is a superb idea, however these need really ought to
be made a little more local? I agree that these devices can make such
a difference to a VI's life, I include myself in that. The tech that I
benefit most from are my set top digibox from TV Onics, JAWS on my PC,
my iPhone and my Sonata radio. Oh, and of course, my guide dog! But
like the guide dog, these things all require some amount of training
and learning.

I'd love to learn how to make full use of my iPhone, PC etc but really
don't know who to approach on this? I've brought this up many times
with my local Sensory Service but it's not something considered part
of the council's remit to be offering such, neither is it offered by
JCP, unless you're lucky enough to be in work.

1 device I'd love to, firstly be able to afford, and secondly learn
the benefits of, is a braille reader such as the braille sense or
something similar. I'd also love to know how to use Twitter on my
phone but have no idea where to find assistance with this? Yes, there
are umpteen podcasts out there in cyber world but some of these, even
applevis, do not seem to explain functionality fully, probably due to
time constraints etc.

Sorry, just a rhetorical rant :were

what's out there for me, where can I get hold of it and how do I use

Events will include sessions on:

* Making sense of mobile phones
* Getting online with computers and tablets
* Options for reading with eBooks and download audio books

Last year, 74 percent of people s aid that they would use or make better
use of technology as a result of attending an event.
