I think that this is a superb idea, however these need really ought to
be made a little more local? I agree that these devices can make such
a difference to a VI's life, I include myself in that. The tech that I
benefit most from are my set top digibox from TV Onics, JAWS on my PC,
my iPhone and my Sonata radio. Oh, and of course, my guide dog! But
like the guide dog, these things all require some amount of training
and learning.
I'd love to learn how to make full use of my iPhone, PC etc but really
don't know who to approach on this? I've brought this up many times
with my local Sensory Service but it's not something considered part
of the council's remit to be offering such, neither is it offered by
JCP, unless you're lucky enough to be in work.
1 device I'd love to, firstly be able to afford, and secondly learn
the benefits of, is a braille reader such as the braille sense or
something similar. I'd also love to know how to use Twitter on my
phone but have no idea where to find assistance with this? Yes, there
are umpteen podcasts out there in cyber world but some of these, even
applevis, do not seem to explain functionality fully, probably due to
time constraints etc.
