Excuse me but that is incorrect.  There definitely is a built-in speaker on
the Dot.

No there's no builtin speaker on the Dot.  You need to plugin one.  I've
just got the dot but haven't set it up yet.

Thanks Jackie,

In terms of speaker, so there's no built in speaker on the dot? Or is there
one but quiet?

Hi Mark

It is up to you, but the Dot is cheaper than the Echo, and you can
plug it into a speaker or hifi system as it has a 3.5mm socket on it
whereas its big sibling doesn't.

Hi

I'm getting very interested in this topic, especially when it comes to
multiple of devices..... I could treat myself an echo but would you
recommend the echo dot first? Ok I'm partially sighted but I've got
hearing impairment  and mild learning disabilities as well. I could
ask Alexa to put loads of schedule reminders, but at the same time, it
will just be like Siri but I would rather have something so I don't
have to keep on charging the battery up all the time :) Lol!

Hi Steve

Yes I did know that, but I never remember the names of some of these
skills!
(smile.)

You can also go to Amazon, choose Alexa from the combo box in
departments to search, and the latest skills are there.

Hi,

You do know both of you that you can add skills with your voice.  If
you know the exact name of the skill, you can say for example "Enable
Radio Player" and it will be done.

All the best

Steve

Hi David

I don't use it for precisely that reason.  Once I set my Echo and Dot
up, I reverted to the website to add skills.  The app for me kept
sticking or throwing me out, it drove me round the bend to be honest.
