Also, the raised 16 digit number is a legacy situation to safeguard against 
outages of the chip and pion service as the card can still be puit through a 
manual receipt machine, especially if using abroad.  That's why we still have a 
signature strip even though I haven't signed for a purchase in years.

Hi All
Since the discussion on Braille, I find myself from time to time having to
ask a sighted person to read out my Visa card number if I am making a
telephone purchase.  It then occurred to me that maybe the number cand be
put in Braille on the card at the request of the card holder.  Is this a
known practice with some blind people who read Braille?
