If I'm not mistaken, dealers usually manage to negotiate local arrangements for packages with HMRC, so there may well be variations. We charge VAT on computers, and I have never seen anywhere that it states that a computer can be exempted from VAT. Can you point us to the bit of the HMRC web site that says to the contrary? If you are right, then this is indeed good news, but I am not sure you are. All the best Steve -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Glenn Tookey Sent: Monday 25 October 2010 13:05 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: Claiming VAT back on a PC Actually a computer can be sold free of VAT if it is installed with software for the blind at the point of sale. It is the processor unit only, so, this means a lap top is completely VAT free if sold with a screen reader or magnifier software installed and a desktop system processor unit is free of vat, but the monitor, keyboard and mouse and any other accessories are not free of VAT. At Sight and Sound Technology we sell lap top and desktop bundles which includes transfer and re-install of screen reader or magnifier software all VAT free. The challenge for us is that without VAT we still struggle to match PC World type pricing as they buy 10,000 a time, but we are in the same ball park and we do configure and load and then support the whole system which the high street retailer cannot do. A computer is not made especially for blind people. ----- Original Message ----- From: <dudleym@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, October 25, 2010 10:54 AM Subject: [access-uk] Claiming VAT back on a PC > Hi Folks > > I've just had to break the bank and replace my PC.
