Correct, if he bought it from an AT supplier, VAT would not have been charged
in the first place

Glenn

Hi Glen

If Martin bought the computer with the screen reader software pre-installed,
then he may be able to get the VAT back, but I'm guessing that he bought the
computer separate, in which case, he will not be able to do so.

Cheers

Actually a computer can be sold free of VAT if it is installed with software
for the blind at the point of sale. It is the processor unit only, so, this
means a lap top is completely VAT free if sold with a screen reader or
magnifier software installed and a desktop system processor unit is free of
vat, but the monitor, keyboard and mouse and any other accessories are not
free of VAT.

At Sight and Sound Technology we sell lap top and desktop bundles which
includes transfer and re-install of screen reader or magnifier software all
VAT free.

The challenge for us is that without VAT we still struggle to match PC World
type pricing as they buy 10,000 a time, but we are in the same ball park and
we do configure and load and then support the whole system which the high
street retailer cannot do.

Regards
Glenn

No. It is your software for blind people that you can claim the VAT back
on. A computer is not made especially for blind people.
