Yes, by then, speech has gone from both JFW and narrator, every key press just
produces a dunk sound, have you never never experienced this?-

Hi Andy, do you mean that you lose speech when that happens too? You can try
Alt Control Delete to check if there's an application that is not responding
and causing your machine to behave oddly.

I understand about the long press of the power button to force a shut down,
but I was hoping there was another way of rebooting or turning off when the
problem I outline occurs; I'd be interested to know what if anything is on the
screen when I get to the point where every key press produces a dunk sound, I
seem to recall under Win98 if this happened, alt control delete would reboot
the machine, all that's has changed now! -

Hi.
Holding the shutdown button should only be a last resort if the system
won't shut down normally. Forcing a shutdown can damage data and corrupt
windows if it is done too often.

Can't be 100% sure, but on most systems, be they desktop or laptop, or
even netbook, you have to hold down the power on key for 5 - 10 seconds before
it will power off.
Just keep your finger on it until it dies. If it has not powered off
after 5 minutes, put your finger in your ear, and go to bed. (Smile!)

Hi all -
This use to happen on my desk top, and I never did get a solution for
it, but it is now happening on my netbook; after using the machine for a little
while, something goes wrong, and key strokes stop working, the most obvious
being the Windows key, when I press it, instead of geting the start menu,
absolutely nothing happens! If I press the Win key and M for the desk top,
nothing happens, and eventually, no matter which key I press, I get a dunk
sound, and can only use the power button to shut down. Does anybody know of a
way round this, so I don't have to use the power button to force a shut down?
