Hi Carol,
I got, and binned, the same email too. I guess it's going out to everyone who's
not using the app. As someone who writes marketing materials, I use mails like
this as examples of how not to do it because I think that the tone is quite
pushy.
I agree that
Did you know that there is a Gmail app which offers the following benefits....
Would have been better than
You're not using our app. Download it here!
But I get all kinds of emails that head straight to the bin without a reply, so
it's not unusual.
I used to have discussions with a colleague about the line between being clear
and to the point, and being abrupt and bossy!
All the best,
Kirsty

No, I wasn't expecting Google support. In fact, I certainly did not expect
them to read my personal message either! I am free to use what I want and how I
want, so long as it doesn't cause a problem to someone else. If they really
wanted to tell me that I wasn't using the app that they had written, or simply
wanted to draw my attention to the fact that they wanted me to understand that
the app I had was not the official one and, as such, it may suggest that it
was, I wouldn't have minded too much but I felt the tone of the email was very
much "do as I say!"! Carol P Sent from my iPhone using MBraille

I'm a bit short on context here. Were you expecting Google to support a gmail
app that they didn't develop? I didn't see much wrong with their response
either. Maybe I just don't get it.
btw I find the stock gmail app on Android perfectly suited to my needs. But
then again I have no idea what this other app you refer to is so can't offer a
useful comparison.

Please don't slap my wrists for this because I do ask a proper

The text of the message is somewhat O T T, I thought! Why do we all
have to do what they tell us to do! ... I wrote that but then
disregarded that sentence for something a little more courteous, but
nevertheless, stuck to my guns that I would make my own choice. I also
said the app I used - and I don't know where it came from now - is
nicely laid out for a blind person and it would have been helpful if
they had let me have an URL for the "official" one!
Perhaps my thinking is wrong but I just can't believe they wrote in
such a pushy, way! The final sentence was just unbelievable! Anyway,
It's It's discarded with great joy!
I did wonder, seriously, if there was a reason why I should go for the
"official" app, so please tell me, someone, if there's a good,
sensible reason because, if there is, just maybe I'll be a good girl ...!
