I've tried this when I bought a pack of DVD-R disks for my CD/DVD-RW, and it didn't work either. I thus came to the conclusion, and discovered that it was true, that the built-in Windows XP burner cannot burn DVD disks, and, worst still, Windows won't even recognize it as a writable/rewritable DVD disk. So, as a solution, you need a programme dedicated to burning DVD disks. I think the latest version of Nero will support this for you. Hope this helps.
