Dear Miss Jackie,

Yes, I understand that. I was thinking of the legacy hardware that most people have.

Many of my friends have Braile displays that are 10 or 15 years old and still work well.

My question was if brtty for Windows can be used alongside jaws to give Braille output with those older displays that are no longer natively supported by jaws.

Cheers,

Doris

Hi Doris

Could I just correct you in terms of FS Braille support. They do support
Braille displays, especially their own Focus range. But they have now
removed serial support in JAWS 11. Consequently, you either have to use an
USB to parallel adaptor or not at all with older displays like mine. The
Focus displays they sell are quite nice and rugged, but if you take
like-for-like, I don't have just under six grand to buy the equivalent Focus
80 which is comparable to my 80 cell PowerBraille that still functions well.

So, FS does support Braille, but they have chosen a road that I don't want
to follow.

Kind Regards,

J

Window Eyes

I am a speech user only and thus have no experience nor actual need for
Braille support at least until now but many people I know do.

I am appalled at FS's not supporting Braille devices.

I have been wondering, though, is it possible to run brtty alongside jaws to
give the Braille support while using jaws for speech?

Cheers,

Doris
