How accurately can a phone's location be tracked by triangulating RSSI
at the cell tower? Received signal strength varies tremendously
depending on conditions, so I wouldn't be surprised if its no better
than hundreds of yards. If you suspect spies are tracking you with
fake mobile cell towers, then they would face exactly the same
problems.

Shaun O'Connor writes:

providing that 1) there is current flowing throught the phone and 2)
there is no obstruction between the phone and any device capable of
receiving the phones regular status message( which informs the the
mobile network of the phones status and approximate loactaion) a phone
can be tracked quite reliably, remove the power source or obstruct the
signal between the phone and listening equipment and tracking is made
significatly more difficult.

Hello,
Can the phone not be tracked otherwise?

But suppose I want to use the microwave at the same time as talking to
someone?

If I believed in any of this drivel, the first thing I'd do is get rid
of my phone and never use the Internet.
